Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Hon James Ocholi (SAN) from Kogi State dies in fatal accident along with his son and wife.

According to SaharaReporters, a source at the Presidency disclosed that the minister as well as son died in a ghastly auto accident on his way to Abuja from Kaduna around Rijana on the Kaduna -Abuja highway. The wife has now been confirmed dead too.

Minister of state for Aviation, Hadi Sirika also shared his thoughts on the incident this afternoon, tweeting that he and the late minister still met on Friday.

"It is 2 heavy 4 me 2 bear z loss of my dear Friend, Minister of state Hon James Ocholi SAN. We departed on Friday to meet no more"

Also President Muhammadu Buhari’s special assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad also confirmed the incident.

"RIP Hon James Ocholi Ministr of state for Labour"

According to Premium Times, the incident occurred along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Sunday afternoon with the driver and wife in critical condition at Doka clinic which is several kilometers from Kaduna. The minister’s car reportedly had a burst tyre on the run and somersaulted several times before the death was confirmed. Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of Information and Culture, when contacted noted that he was away in Lagos and was trying to confirm the incident. The senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, however, stated that the presidency had been informed, adding:

“We are trying to issue a statement on the matter.”

The late minister’s body has been confirmed to be in the mortuary by another Twitter user who wrote:

"RIP James Ocholi, body confirmed to be in National Hospital Abuja"
